For the first time in U.S. history, a patient’s motion has been nearly fully restored, thanks to a new spinal procedure that removes a spine patient’s prior fusion in their neck, replacing it with an artificial disc.
The procedure was introduced by Dr. Todd Lanman, one of the world’s chief spinal neurosurgeons, and performed on a female golfer from Texas with three fused discs in her neck. Following the procedure, the patient’s motion was almost completely restored, allowing her to once again continue golfing, something she had difficulty doing following her fusion surgery.
