YOSHIKI, the acclaimed musician from X JAPAN, will undergo his third neck surgery on October 8 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. The procedure, a cervical artificial disc replacement, is critical due to chronic neck pain and neurological issues affecting his left hand and fingers.
YOSHIKI’s health problems have significantly impacted his daily life and performances. This surgery aims to address issues with cervical discs C6-C7. He has previously undergone surgeries for similar conditions, including a cervical laminectomy in 2009 and an artificial disc replacement in 2017.
Despite severe pain and numbness, YOSHIKI plans to fulfill some of his commitments over the next two months but will need to cancel most of his schedule in October. He expressed hope to return to performing by the end of the year, although recovery will require several months of medical supervision.
Dr. Todd Lanman, the spinal neurosurgeon performing the surgery, explained that the fusion from YOSHIKI’s previous surgery has put extra pressure on the remaining discs, causing significant pain. Dr. Tommy Tomizawa, overseeing YOSHIKI’s care, added that delaying the surgery could worsen his condition.
In 2023, YOSHIKI maintained an intense schedule, including international tours, philanthropic activities, and major public appearances, despite his health challenges. His future plans will be reassessed post-surgery, and discussions with his U.S. agency, WME, are ongoing regarding future tours.
“We deeply apologize for the inconvenience this will cause to fans and everyone involved,” said MANAGEMENT.
